Just Transition in the Polish Automotive Industry

Being one of the most important manufacturing sectors, the automotive industry plays a major role in the Polish economy. Despite its significance, Poland does not have a clear strategy to address the urgency to achieve climate neutrality and just transition within the automotive industry.

The lack of dialogue between private and public stakeholders hinder the process, as transformation challenges increase. Although there is no established pathway for the domestic market, research performed by the WiseEuropa Institute experts shows that Poland is in the transition towards zero-emission mobility, with an emphasis on electric mobility (especially focused on exports of e-buses and batteries). The report by WiseEuropa presents key challenges of the automobile industry in Poland and proposes various transition pathways. It may serve as a base for future discussions in Poland and beyond, which hopefully facilitate just transition of the automotive industry in line with the European Union climate policy.

Additionally, a series of country reports for Croatia, Czechia, Hungary, Slovakia and the whole EU has been developed. Based on them, a comparative analysis has been created. The latter conveys a comparison between national case studies and contributes to the literature by scrutinising the strategies of three groups of key actors: corporations, governments, and labour unions. All the publications are available for download on the website dedicated to the project:
