Opportunities and risks of potential implementations of the International Energy Agency's recommendations to cut oil use

Report about opportunities and risks of potential implementation of the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) recommendations to cut oil use.

In the context of the energy crisis caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the International Energy Agency (IEA) has published a plan to reduce oil consumption. This plan proposes 10 actions that can be taken to reduce oil consumption.

IAE notes that impacts are short term and reflect implementation in advanced economies where feasible and culturally acceptable. It is worth emphasizing that this document is not binding on the Polish state, but has the nature of a recommendation.

These recommendations can be seen as implementing scenarios that reduce oil dependency and thus increase energy security. They can be seen as climate policy tools aiming at decarbonization and improved air quality. The authors of the report are aware of the specific situation in which the recommendations were made. However, they want to shed new light on the IEA recommendations and discuss the opportunities and risks arising from their possible implementation.
