Can politicians ruin the economy? Can Poland become another Greece?

Warsaw can end up like Athens. Economists criticise the current electoral campaign and caution against politicians ruining public finances. Experts have met at the debate of Association of Polish Economists. The topics addressed before the upcoming parliamentary elections are the economy, taxes and pension scheme, among others.

On October 25, the Poles will decide who will take parliamentary and senate seats. The President of the Warsaw Institute for Economic Studies, Maciej Bukowski, admits that this year election campaign is ripe with promises harmful to public finances. According to him, especially harmful are the proposals of introducing bank tax and aiding Swiss franc borrowers. It could impact the funding sector in the economy. The expert criticised politicians’ announcements of the social reforms as well.
