Are there still leaders among politicians?

About national politics, foreign affairs and the economy. Yesterday, Polish Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz and the candidate for Prime Minister from Law and Justice, Beata Szydło, discussed crucial matters for Poland. The draw? The win? What was the outcome of yesterday’s debate? The discussion was commented on by: Prof. Ewa Marciniak (The Institute of Political Science, University of Warsaw), Dr. Małgorzata Bonikowska (Centre for International Relations) and Dr. Maciej Bukowski (Warsaw Institute for Economic Studies).

‘I would rate the debate’s score as 0:0’, commented Maciej Bukowski. ‘The answers had nothing to do with the questions. The statements were inconsistent and monotonous, especially in the case of party leader Beata Szydło. Economic and socio-economic discourse of both ladies was dominated by a populist narrative. Such treatment of the voters may stem from either no sense of responsibility for their words, or blatant disregard for the voters and mistaking them for babies in the woods. It is also worth noting that the subject of mining was not addressed at all, probably because of its inconvenience for both parties’, summed up the expert.
