Over the last decade global megatrends have led to significant changes in the energy sectors in many countries, not only in terms of new sources of energy entering the market, but also as far as the perception of the future of the energy system is concerned.
While renewable energy sources bring certain challenges, they also offer numerous opportunities. Whereas Poland has already been negatively affected by some of these megatrends, the Polish energy policy still needs to adapt and react to global changes to properly use the existing and upcoming opportunities and better prepare for new challenges.
How will changes brought about by new trends in climate policy, transformation of the energy sector and investments in renewable energy sources affect Poland? Will it continue to rely on coal as the main energy source or will it open up to investments in renewable energy sources? This and other issues were discussed in the report Polish energy sector: Preparing for new challenges.
