Consumers gain again – year ends with falling energy prices

Energy prices in Poland at the lowest level in 5 years. Another round of price declines at petrol stations. In 2015 Polish households saved 0.8 bn EUR as a result of energy price declines.

Last month’s rebound in energy prices proved to be short-lived. In December, they declined by 0.9% compared to November (-4.4% year on year) and are now on the lowest level in five years. Overall, 2015 has been a beneficial year for the energy consumers in Poland. Despite the fact that energy prices temporary increased from March to July, there was not a single month when they were higher than in December 2014. This translates into 0.8 bn EUR of annual savings for Polish households, according to estimates by WISE Institute. Further price declines are expected in January, after new gas and electricity tariffs for households are introduced.
