In search of a new paradigm: the Western Balkans and the EU integration

The authors of this report argue that further integration with the European Union is the key to the democratisation and the development of the Western Balkans.

A substantial progress in these processes has been achieved since the 1990s. However, theregion still finds itself in the middle of the transition and state building process and it suffers from insufficient management capabilities and democratic credentials of the political elite. This is why, the Balkans need the EU’s continuous engagement and support.
